Our People

Partners & Advisors.

A small, considered group of practitioners drawn together by a shared conviction in the merits of waiting until one is sure.

Senior Leadership

Founders & Managing Partners.

AWH
A. Whitcombe Hollis
Founder & Chairman
Magdalen College, Oxford · HBS · CFA

Mr. Hollis founded the Firm in 1999 following a distinguished career in conventional asset management, during which he came to observe that virtually every decision he had made would, given sufficient time, be confirmed correct. He serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee and the Committee on Considered Judgement.

RPT
Reginald Pemberton-Thorne, DPhil
Vice Chairman & Chief Retrospective Officer
Trinity College, Cambridge · LSE

Dr. Pemberton-Thorne joined the Firm in 2003. He holds the only doctorate in Applied Hindsight conferred by the London School of Economics, his thesis having been completed and accepted some years after submission. He oversees the Firm's research function.

MAV
Margaret Ashworth Vance
Senior Managing Partner, Conviction Modelling
Yale · Wharton · CFA · CRP

Ms. Vance leads the Firm's Conviction Modelling practice, where her team produces the formal documentation establishing why each of the Firm's recommendations was, in fact, certain at the time. She spent fourteen years at a competing firm, where her judgements were frequently correct but rarely on schedule.

The Practice

Investment & Advisory Team.

CDF
Cornelius D. Fairfax IV
Head of Patient Observation
Princeton · Christ Church, Oxford

Mr. Fairfax oversees the Firm's observation discipline. He is widely regarded as among the most patient analysts of his generation, having held a single position from 1991 until its eventual confirmation in 2024.

EBC
Eleanor Bracewell-Coate
Senior Partner, Retrospective Counsel
Balliol College, Oxford · Harvard Law

Ms. Bracewell-Coate advises clients on the structuring of decisions they should have made. She joined the Firm following a tenure in private wealth, where she was twice formally commended for the timing of her observations.

BSH
Bartholomew Sterling Hayes
Senior Retrospective Advisor
Stanford · INSEAD · CFA

Mr. Hayes serves as principal counsel to a small number of family offices, providing detailed retrospective advice in respect of decisions taken in the recent past. He maintains a perfect record of subsequent affirmation.

PWM
Penelope Worthington-Mills
Director, Manifestly Obvious Opportunities
St. John's College, Cambridge

Ms. Worthington-Mills heads the Firm's identification of opportunities that, in the considered judgement of the Firm, ought to have been recognised at the time. Her desk produces approximately three such identifications per trading day.

FAC
Frederick Ashby Carrington
Vice President, Late Clarity Analytics
Columbia · Booth

Mr. Carrington oversees the quantitative basis of the Firm's Late Clarity Surcharge. His models confirm, with increasing precision over time, the obviousness of opportunities the client failed to act upon.

CRW
Constance Ravenscroft Wynn
Director, Generational Opportunity Identification
Brown · Tuck

Ms. Ravenscroft Wynn classifies opportunities as generational, multi-generational, or epochal. The Firm has noted that opportunities under her review are uniformly upgraded by at least one classification within five years of identification.

GHG
Geoffrey Halloway-Greaves
Senior Associate, Distribution Waterfalls
Dartmouth · NYU Stern

Mr. Halloway-Greaves administers the Firm's distribution waterfalls, ensuring that each tier is settled in proper sequence and that the Catch-Up provision is honoured with characteristic thoroughness.

OPS
Octavia Pemberton-Stoke
Associate, Self-Evidence Research
Yale · Cambridge (M.Phil.)

Ms. Pemberton-Stoke joined the Firm in 2021 as the inaugural appointee to the Self-Evidence desk. Her research distinguishes between matters that were merely obvious and those that were, on careful subsequent reflection, self-evident.

Advisory Council

Senior Counsel.

A standing council of senior figures whose advice the Firm seeks in matters of particular gravity, and whose judgement, where rendered, is invariably affirmed.
